Civic Center garage replacement going vertical in downtown Springfield

After months of prep work that was largely underground, construction contractors have gone vertical and started erecting the concrete structure for the new Convention Center Carpark and Plaza at the MassMutual Center.

Besides space for 800 to 900 cars, the new $35 million project will include 10,000 square feet of retail or restaurant space, along with a nextdoor multi-use plaza that will be known as Bruce’s Landing after Bruce Landon. Landon is Springfield’s “Mr. Hockey,” a former goaltender and longtime part-owner, president and general manager of professional hockey teams here.

Gloria Larson named interim executive director of Massachusetts Convention Center Authority

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) has announced that the MCCA Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve Gloria Cordes Larson to serve as its interim executive director.

Larson, a respected business leader, lawyer, public policy expert, and former president of Bentley University, will fulfill the duties and responsibilities of managing all MCCA operations and leadership until a permanent executive director is named. She will start at the MCCA in January.

Larson returns to the MCCA after serving as chair of the Board for 12 years, during which time she oversaw the construction and opening of the $850m Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC).

ESPA announces newest superstars leading event services industry

The Event Service Professionals Association (ESPA) has announced the recipients of its awards highlighting outstanding leadership in the event services sector, as well as association leadership and engagement.

The honours were presented during the association’s 2024 Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis, USA.

The list of 2024 ESPA award winners includes:

Executive Excellence Award – Diane DiAntonio, CMP, CEM, the general manager at Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.
