Lawn on D swings into spring with a packed lineup

Right on time for the warmer weather — which we hope is here to stay — the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority’s Lawn on D is swinging open its gates for a fifth season on Tuesday. The popular outdoor hangout will host a wide array of events this season, from returning favorites (Guinness & Oyster Fest) to new festivities.

The Lawn on D season will kick off with a Cinco de Mayo celebration on Friday and Saturday, featuring a lineup of Latin and Mariachi bands to start things off right.

Along with various food fests, live music, and outdoor movies, the MCAA will also host a monthly Signature Event Series, starting with Swing Into Spring, the Lawn’s opening ceremony on May 19.

June 16 will be the Lawn of Champions, a new event featuring some of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots’ many, many trophies, along with activities and programs sponsored by Citizens Bank Community Partners.

The Summer Block Party returns on July 7, which will feature mini golf, bubble soccer, salsa dancing, and a special (and likely paint-splattered) appearance by the Blue Man Group. The fun will even extend into the fall with Pumpkin Palooza on Oct. 27, a Halloween fun-fest. More events for August and September will be announced soon.

Of course, the Lawn’s signature Swing Time, the interactive sculpture made of LED swings, will be on hand all season. This year will also be the debut of the Halo Swing, a 6-person swing that will be available in the private events area. In a year where Bostonians have been collectively aching for spring, Lawn on D is just what we needed.
