New Full-Service Omni Hotel to be Built Across the Street From the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center

Opening planned for 2021, 1043 rooms, to be built with no public subsidy

Boston, MA – The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) is excited to share that the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts have signed an agreement to construct a large, full-service hotel across the street from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) in South Boston. The $550 million project is expected to be completed in 2021 and, notably, does not include a public subsidy to build or operate the property demonstrating Boston’s strength as a prime convention destination.

With a variety of innovative guest amenities, the hotel will be among the city’s largest with more than 1000 rooms and suites, as well as over 100,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, which includes a 25,000 square foot ballroom. These are key features that meeting planners and customers have consistently cited as a key priority when choosing Boston for their future event.

The hotel will also reduce transportation costs and increase flexibility and supply for customers by improving the balance of hotel inventory for both the BCEC and Hynes Convention Center in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

“Omni is a world-class hotel owner and operator and its long-term commitment to South Boston will be a tremendous asset for our customers as we compete to bring events to Boston from around the world,” said MCCA Executive Director David Gibbons. “I want to congratulate and thank Massport CEO Tom Glynn and his team as well as Omni Hotels & Resorts for delivering a game-changer right outside our front door.”
