At the MassMutual Center, our work has always focused on bringing people downtown. Each year, concerts, sporting events, conventions and community gatherings draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Springfield, supporting local businesses, hotels and jobs across the region.

 

As our industry continues to evolve, so does our approach. For us, the next big thing in the venues and events sector is not a single technology or trend. Save That Stuff Tour

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) and its partners from ABM had the opportunity to tour Save That Stuff in Charlestown, MA. Founded in 1990 by Erik Levy, Save That Stuff is a waste collection facility that offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional waste disposal methods. Save That Stuff helps educational and governmental institutions like the MCCA uphold commitments to corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and cost control. The MCCA has worked with Save That Stuff for 10 years to reduce our convention centers’ recyclable waste. In a typical year, the MCCA recycles an average of 774 tons between the Hynes and the BCEC with Save That Stuff!

John Barros takes reins at Convention Center Authority

Entering a prominent role like heading the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority — especially after the previous executive director’s high-profile departure — could provoke scrutiny.

 

For John Barros, who stepped into the role of the authority’s interim executive director Jan. 14, the inquiries even came from his own family.

 

“My mother asked me that question: ‘What are you going to be doing there? Can you explain that to me?’” Barros said in an interview.

 

The short version: helping Massachusetts to be a good tourist destination.

MCCA Awards $115,000 in Community Partnership Grants to 23 Boston Nonprofits

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) today announced it has distributed $115,000 in Community Partnership Grants to 23 Boston-based nonprofits during its annual awards luncheon at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center (MCEC).

 

The grants are awarded through the MCCA’s Community Partnership Program, which directs a portion of consumer show revenues from the MCEC to support Boston-based nonprofit organizations.
