MGM Resorts recognized as one of the top community-minded companies in the nation

MGM Resorts International has been recognized for its dedication to volunteer service.

The company has named an honoree of the 2018 Civic 50, which recognizes corporations that dedicate time and resources to volunteerism.

MGM, which is headquartered in Las Vegas, is opening a $960 million resort casino project in downtown Springfield in two months.

"From the start, MGM Springfield has integrated itself into the fabric of the city and the broader western Massachusetts region and Commonwealth," Saverio Mancini, director of communications for MGM Springfield said of the recognition.

MGM was awarded a gaming license to operate in Massachusetts four years.

The company has forged partnerships with local organizations, from the HCC MGM Culinary Arts Institute, where students can work towards a hospitality and culinary arts degree or certificate through Holyoke Community College, to hosting events for Dress for Success, a nonprofit that provides gently used professional clothing and career counseling services to women.

Employees of MGM Springfield also dedicate time to volunteerism.

"Every year, we look forward to getting to know our neighbors during the world's largest Pancake Breakfast on Main Street in downtown Springfield. And inspiring young men to build opportunities for their tomorrow through are support of local initiatives like Suit Up Springfield," Mancini said. "It's these opportunities and others that we feel strongly make our company and our employees healthier in every way. These traditions represent critical pieces of life in Springfield and the Commonwealth and remind us that we are part of a shared history that helps shape who we are today and how the city and state will move forward in the future."
